The inside of a tooth is known as the ‘pulp’- a network of loose connective tissue, blood vessels and nerves. The pulp runs from a centre chamber and down through canals in the roots of teeth, allowing nutrients to enter and nerve messages to pass out of the tooth.
When the dental pulp becomes damaged, infected, inflamed or diseased, root canal therapy may be required to clean out the affected pulp from the root, disinfect and medicate the inside of the tooth, and refill the tooth, in order to save the tooth and prevent further problems and discomfort.
Root Canal Therapy (RCT) can be performed by a qualified specialist endondontist. The Melbourne Aesthetic Dental Centre is proud to have Dr Tony Langford on our team, performing a range of endodontic procedures, including root canal treatment.
