Grinding, known as ‘bruxism’ is often a result of stress, nervousness and anxiety, which can lead to serious damage and dental issues. If you wake up with ache or discomfort in the jaw or teeth, you may inadvertantly clench or grind during your sleep.
Treatment can include provision of a mouth ‘splint’, a type of dental appliance you wear to stop you from physically being able to clench your teeth together. These can also be safely worn at night. Another vital part of treating bruxism is addressing the behavioural aspect, and ascertaining why grinding is occurring, and what could be done to stop it.
